Prof Chris Mcconville
Professor McConville is an internationally recognised researcher in pharmaceutics, drug delivery and biomedical innovation, with a particular focus on implantable drug delivery systems, pharmaceutical engineering and personalised medicine.
His work has generated new methodologies for the manufacture and clinical translation of advanced drug delivery technologies, including hot-melt extrusion, injection moulding, 3D printing, microfluidics and GMP-enabled scale-up. Across his career, Professor McConville has secured over £20M in competitive research funding from UKRI (including MRC), Innovate UK, charities, government and industry. His outputs include >40 peer-reviewed publications, patents and translational assets, with clear evidence of influence on clinical research, industrial practice and regulatory pathways.
A defining contribution has been the conception, development and translation of ChemoSeed, an implantable drug delivery platform for the localised treatment of high-grade glioma. Professor McConville led this technology from proof-of-concept through preclinical validation, GLP toxicology, GMP manufacture and into clinical evaluation, culminating in the approval of the Phase 2 OPTICAL clinical trial in both recurrent and newly diagnosed glioblastoma. This work exemplifies the translation of fundamental pharmaceutics into patient benefit.
Professor McConville is CSO of CRISM Therapeutics Corp, a publicly listed pharmaceutical company he founded to support the translation and commercialisation of ChemoSeed.
