BNOS 2026 Bursaries

We are delighted to confirm that we are now accepting applications for bursaries to attend our annual conference in Birmingham from 1-3 July.

Bursaries can be used towards the cost of subsidised registration, accommodation, travel and £20 towards evening meals.

To maximise the bursary fund available, we are offering two levels of bursary depending on your location. For strong candidates that are not offered a full bursary, there will also be a number of £100 awards to help towards costs.

How much can you apply for:

  • £200 for conference registration only (early bird subsidised rate), if you are based in Birmingham

  • £500 if you are based outside of Birmingham

Eligibility:
You must:

  • Be a BNOS member at the time of application

  • Be based in the UK

  • Fall within one of the following categories

  1. Non-medical trainees and basic scientists (e.g. undergraduate students, PhD students, early career researchers within 5 years of receiving their PhD)
  2. Medical trainees (e.g. medical students, medical PhD students, junior doctors) who do not receive funding from elsewhere.
  3. Clinical Nurse Specialists and Allied Health Professionals
  4. Patient / Carer Representatives

How to apply:
Please submit a one-page application letter explaining why a bursary for the 2026 meeting is important to you. Include for example, any research you are involved in, your current experience, or future aspirations of working with patients with brain tumours. Tell us whether you are involved in patient / carer support or advocacy and if you are active on any neuro-oncology patient / carer forums.

Please also state:

  • Which category (e.g. non-medical trainee, AHP, etc. as set out above) you are applying for

  • Which level of bursary you are applying for (£200 or £500)

  • Whether you have submitted an abstract*

  • The first half of your home postcode

*Submission of an abstract is not a requirement; however, when scoring the applications, an additional point will be given to applicants who have submitted an abstract. Please note this does not apply to patient and carer representatives.

Email your application to laura@bnos.org.uk

The deadline for applications is midnight on 29 March 2026.

Important information:

  • If successful, you will be sent a link to register for free at the early bird subsidised 3 day rate (£200). There is no longer a requirement to pay for your registration and then claim the money back.

  • The cost of registration will be deducted from the £500 bursary which means there is £300 available towards accommodation, travel and meals.

  • The £500 bursaries offered are intended to assist towards the costs of attending the conference and may not cover all costs incurred.

  • Applications will be anonymised.

  • This is a competitive process. Applications will be reviewed and scored against set criteria.

  • Bursary monies for travel, accommodation and food will be awarded after the meeting, upon production of receipts and confirmation of attendance. Reimbursements cannot be made without accompanying receipts.

  • You will be notified of the outcome of your application in advance of the early bird deadline (30 April 2026).
